What to Pack for the Perfect Beach Vacation

Read Time:2 Minute, 28 Second

Planning the perfect beach vacation might seem simple at first, but to get it just right, you need the ideal combination of elements. Take a look at some of these items you might want to think about taking with you next time you and your family head out for the beach.

Entertainment

The whole point of taking a trip to the beach is to relax and treat yourself to a fun time. This means being prepared with sources of entertainment or ways to pass the time while basking on the sand. Here are some ideas:

  • A book. Whether it’s an old favorite or a new bestseller, having a book to keep you occupied can take the entire beach experience to a new level of relaxation.
  • Of course, listening to the sea is wonderful, but there’s nothing wrong with creating a perfect beach playlist and daydreaming.
  • A journal or sketchbook. The beach can provide you with plenty of creative inspiration.
  • A surfboard, or any kind of beach sport equipment you enjoy. If you’re somewhere like a Waikiki beach hotel, surfing and making the most of the water is a fantastic way to spend your time.

Sun Protection

Chances are you’re going to the beach specifically to enjoy the good weather, but that doesn’t mean you can forget all about sun protection. The dangers of sun exposure include skin damage, premature aging, and more serious illnesses in the long run. Try to pack some or all of these when deciding what to bring along on your trip:

  • A hat. Unless you have no hair on your head, a hat is the best way to protect your scalp from sunburn. Hats with visors or wide brims can also help to keep your eyes in the shade.
  • Light and lose clothes will keep you from overheating in the sunshine. Certain fabrics better reflect UV light and prevent the sun from damaging your skin through your clothes.
  • Sunscreen applied carefully and regularly is essential for a safe beach trip. Water and sand can rub sunscreen from the skin, so remember to top up frequently. Don’t forget parts of your body that often go neglected, such as your feet and lips. You can find lip balms that contain UV protection.
  • Your eyes are incredibly sensitive to potential light damage, and prolonged exposure can easily lead to lasting damage. Make sure to find shades that clearly state their level of UV protection.

Food

Having plenty of snacks and cold drinks will make it a more comfortable beach experience, especially if the weather is very hot. Protect your food from pests such as insects or birds by keeping it in containers until you’re ready to eat, and make sure you stay hydrated.

Swimming

If you plan to swim at the beach, remember to bring your swimsuit, a towel, and a dry change of clothing. Going home at the end of a perfect beach day in wet clothes is never any fun.
